6 best ways to build your child's confidence

We all want to be confident and self assured but how can we help our child to feel brave, positive and be the best possible version of themselves that they can be? Read on to find out...

BUILDING CONFIDENCE
You are not born with high or low self confidence. It is something that you work on over time until it becomes a part of who you are. Confidence is like a muscle - the more you work on it the easier it becomes to maintain. There are many ways that we help your child become more confident at their gymnastics club. Read on to learn more...

HERE ARE OUR TOP 6 TIPS!

Affirmations

1. AFFIRMATIONS

At Flair we work on building your child's confidence by focusing on your child's successes and accomplishments. There are lots of different ways that we help to build your child's self esteem. We do this with plenty of words of encouragement, high fives, ticks on their award level trackers as they achieve new skills, recognition of achieving their goals and winning trophies when they are nominated as the Member of the Month. Each time your child receives praise and encouragement from their coach it gives them a feeling of confidence and strength which grows with each subsequent piece of positive feedback.

If you would like your child to build their confidence through the wonderful sport of gymnastics why not book a Trial Class at one of our gymnastics clubs in Surrey.

Goal Setting

2. GOAL SETTING
At the start of term your child's coach will help them to set goals to achieve by the end of the term. Their coach will make sure that the goals they set will test your child without being unattainable. Sometimes they will set mini goals which will culminate in them achieving a bigger goal. Accomplishing goals will give your child a sense of achievement and make them realise that they are making progress. As your child achieves more goals their confidence will grow and they will feel good about themselves.

Persistence

3. PERSISTENCE

Another way we help your child build their confidence is by helping them prepare themselves for success. Success doesn't come immediately and it's important to learn the art of persistence. If your child has a competition coming up where they will be performing perhaps a difficult vault or floor routine, their coach will make sure that they practice lots so that when the big day arrives they will feel excited to get started, confident in the knowledge that they are ready to do their best. If success doesn't come right away their continued persistence will help them to achieve higher scores next time which in turn will make their confidence soar.

Positivity

4. POSITIVITY

It's not always the things that come naturally to your child that makes them feel super-confident. Sometimes it's the things that they have to work really hard to conquer. Your child's gymnastics coach will help them stay on track and stay positive through the difficult times when they are struggling to perfect a challenging new skill. Your child's coach will also encourage them to use positive self talk. Telling themselves "I am talented and I can do this" can really help to build your child's confidence and help them to achieve new skills. Once they have achieved it they will feel excited and more confident about tackling another difficult skill.

Learn something new

5. LEARN SOMETHING NEW

Learning a new activity can definitely build your child's confidence. If they are a gymnast perhaps learning trampolining or freestyle would help them step out of their comfort zone. Trying new activities will give their confidence a boost as they see what else they can achieve. Everyone feels a little unsure when they first try new things but the realisation that actually, yes, they can do this will make them feel great!

Visualisation

6. VISUALISATION

Visualisation is a fantastic tool that can be even more useful at this time when we have not been able to get to our gymnastics clubs. You do this by visualising yourself achieving your skills in the best possible way. Make the vision really clear and real. See what you are wearing and feel how you feel when you perform this skill so perfectly. Imagine how confident you now are. What does that feel like?

Being self confident boosts our self esteem, diminishes stress and makes us feel good about ourselves and plays an integral role in our happiness so naturally it's something that we want every child to experience.
